HARMONY WAY BRIDGE PROJECT
THE VISION
This bridge re-imagined as a pedestrian space would be a unique, regional destination for existing and new visitors to compliment the already thriving tourism economy in New Harmony. Sited adjacent to the Visitors' Center at the Atheneum, it is a natural addition to the fabric of the visitor experience.
PEDESTRIAN USES
Unlike other popular pedestrian bridges like the Big 4 in Louisville or the Highline in New York, this bridge is set in an idylic natural setting. Walking, biking, and golf cart usage will all be explored, as well as the option for one lane of car traffic.
The Hybrid model, with one lane of car traffic and one lane of pedestrian will require about $200,000 more in initial fundraising and much more administrative complexity short and long-term.
FUNDRAISING EVENTS
Aside from the bridge being rented by other individuals or organizations, other events like concerts, festivals, movie nights, hammock parties, and endless other options could be pursued as fundraising events for the bridge.
SPECIAL EVENT RENTALS
If the bridge were all pedestrian, we could rent it for special events, building on New Harmony's existing strong calendar of festivals, cultural events, weddings, and meetings.
So, how do we make this vision a reality?
